Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is the use of a wide range of computer-based tools that assist engineers, architects and other design professionals in developing the layout of the project. The design identifies the overall layout for the project and shows where electrical outlets, heating/ventilation system components, and water pipes will be installed. It also helps the homeowner determine the budget for the project and gives a 3-dimensional view of what the finished project will look like.
